The Physical Measurements (MP) department offers a generalist university education that is at once theoretical, practical and technological, adapted to new technologies. In three years, it trains senior technicians and middle managers with a broad spectrum of skills centred on Physical Sciences and Physical Chemistry.

This training leads, in three years of continuous assessment, to the award of a Bachelor of Technology (BUT) in Physical Measurements.
Among the three national courses of the BUT in Physical Measurements, the MP department in Marseille offers the following two courses accessible in the 2nd year:

• Instrumentation Techniques (TI)
• Materials and Physical-Chemical Control (MCPC)

BUT MP
  • How are the studies organized?

Technological education is divided as follows:

    - A minimum of 40% of the time is devoted to practical and vocational teaching (practical work, learning and work experience).

    - A minimum of 40% of the hourly volume is devoted to practical teaching and professional situations (practical work, Learning and Evaluation Situations (LES), tutorial projects, internships in companies or research laboratories, etc.),

    - Approximately 60% of the hourly volume is devoted to a professional training course.

    - Approximately 60% of the hourly volume is devoted to theoretical teaching in the form of lectures and tutorials. The course also includes instruction in English speaking and writing techniques (with preparation for the TOEIC test). The MP department in Marseille offers an initial training course and a sandwich course from the second year onwards.

For students in initial training, the internships, with a total duration of 26 weeks, are carried out over the last two years. These internships can be carried out in France or abroad in a company or research laboratory.

    • The apprenticeship students alternate between 4-5 week periods of teaching at the IUT and 4-5 week periods in the company.
  • Internships, work-study and supervised projects

For students in initial training, the internships, with a total duration of 26 weeks, are carried out over the last two years; The total duration of the training courses is 26 weeks and they are spread over the last two years (11 weeks of training in the second year (beginning of February) and 15 weeks for the end-of-study training in the third year).
These internships can be carried out in France or abroad,
    -in a company

The apprentice students alternate between 4-5 week periods of teaching at the IUT and 4-5 week periods in the company. The content of the teaching programme is identical to that of the initial training (IT course). Some courses are taken at the same time by apprentices and students in initial training.

Throughout the 3 years, students work in teams on both theoretical and applied projects that are supervised by teachers, research teachers and technical staff of the department. The students organise their work by setting milestones, write a report and, depending on the semester, make an oral presentation at the end of the project. These projects allow students to stimulate their autonomy, their personal work, their teamwork, their organisational skills, and to put their scientific knowledge into practice.

  • Alternance
