Sponsorship

Sponsorship is defined as material or financial support provided, without any direct compensation from the recipient, to an organization or an individual for the purpose of carrying out activities that serve the public interest.

Skills-based sponsorship is a form of sponsorship whereby a company makes the skills of its employees available free of charge, during their working hours, to a public-interest organisation. The company continues to pay the employee’s salary, whilst the beneficiary organisation benefits from their expertise to carry out a specific task.

How it works:

  • minimum duration: 1 day per year (not exceeding 3 years) ;
  • during working hours (not using annual leave);
  • all companies with their registered office in France, excluding sole traders, are eligible;
  • the employee remains an ‘employee’ of their organisation.

 Benefits for companies:

  • tax relief: 60 per cent of the gross salary including contributions;
  • CSR initiative;
  • employer branding;
  • association with the reputation of Aix-Marseille University;
  • link to research;
  • identifying and discovering future talent (indirect headhunting);
  • the sponsor acts as an ambassador for their company.

Benefits for employees:

  • a tool for developing skills;
  • the opportunity to practise their profession in a different way, develop their skills and diversify their roles;
  • the chance to interact with different audiences, including students and lecturers;
  • the opportunity to pass on their knowledge, find purpose and develop their sense of civic responsibility.

Financial patronage refers to the permanent and gratuitous transfer of a sum of money from a donor to a beneficiary (usually an association, a foundation or a public-interest organisation).
Make a commitment to the future! Support innovation, teaching and research at the Aix-Marseille University Institute of Technology (IUT).

  • How it works:
    • visit the AMU Foundation’s website: donfondation.univ-amu.fr. When making your donation, you will have the option to earmark your donation for the IUT, or to directly support the specific project you wish to fund.

  • Benefits for businesses:
    • tax relief: the donation entitles you to a corporation tax relief equal to 60 per cent of the amount donated (up to a limit of €20,000 or 0.5 per cent of turnover);
    • a tool for communication and brand image: this enhances the brand, demonstrates the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) and strengthens its local presence in the eyes of the public and customers;
    • a tool for internal cohesion: supporting causes of general interest that give meaning and reinforce a sense of pride in belonging.

Sponsorship in kind refers to the contribution of tangible assets, goods, or services by a company to a public-interest organization, without direct compensation.

  • Benefits for companies:
    • corporate income tax (CIT) reduction: the company is eligible for a tax deduction equal to 60% of the cost value of the donation (up to a limit of €20,000 or 0.5% of pre-tax revenue);
    • Utilization of idle inventory: this allows companies to dispose of slow-moving assets (unsold items, end-of-line products) or depreciated IT equipment in a meaningful way, thereby avoiding storage or disposal costs;
    • a significant contribution to CSR criteria.

Technology sponsorship is an innovative form of support that lies at the intersection of in-kind sponsorship and skills-based sponsorship. It is defined as the free provision by a company of state-of-the-art equipment, digital solutions, high-level infrastructure, or technical expertise to benefit public-interest organizations (such as higher education institutions, research laboratories, or nonprofit organizations).

In the current context of global digital transformation, this approach has emerged as a major strategic response. It helps bridge the technological investment gap faced by public sector entities and the social and solidarity economy by providing them with privileged access to leading professional tools that are often beyond the reach of their operating budgets.

Very often, technology sponsorship goes hand in hand with skills sponsorship: donating complex software is pointless if no one knows how to use it. The company then assigns engineers or technicians to train the beneficiary’s teams.

  • Benefits for companies:
    • a showcase for innovation and a proof of concept: allows the company to test and promote its solutions in complex and demanding environments (real-world demonstrations, accelerated R&D);
    • a tool for attracting and retaining tech talent. In the fields of engineering, IT, and data science, the search for meaning is a key motivator: enhancing the employer brand, fostering a sense of pride in belonging, and developing skills;
    • optimization of assets and tax efficiency, and maximizing the return on infrastructure: this makes it possible to make surplus or idle capacity (bandwidth, cloud storage space, servers, computing cycles) available without high marginal costs for the company;
    • Attractive tax incentives: The company benefits from a 60% corporate income tax (CIT) reduction calculated based on the cost of the technologies transferred, the software licenses provided, or the working hours of the experts deployed;
    • A major contribution to CSR criteria.
