The University Institute of Technology (IUT) of Aix-Marseille is located in 7 different cities. It offers professional technological training at the Bac +3 level in the secondary industry and service sectors: management, commerce, logistics, computer science/communication, electronics, computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry, biology, security, energy and process engineering.

Supervision and professionalization are two characteristics of the IUT's training programs, which explains their attractiveness: the success rates are 70% for the DUT Bac +2 and 99% for the professional license, while the professional recruitment rate for professional license graduates is nearly 90%.

International students on exchange programmes are selected by the IUT's partner universities for one semester or for the entire University Bachelor of Technology programme.

    Study programs in French

    The University Bachelor of Technology (BUT) is a Bachelor's degree course, recognised at the European level (180 ECTS), which enables graduates to enter a Master's degree or to go to work.



    The IUT of Aix-Marseille offers 18 BUT specialities:

    Study programs in English

    • Marketing and Sales Techniques, located in Marseille in the TC department.

    Application

    The university partner sends the applications of its selected students in spring for the autumn semester (S1), and in autumn for the winter semester (S2).

    Registration at the University

    Several steps are compulsory:

    • Registration on the Moveon mobility portal
    • Online registration at the University of Aix-Marseille (170 €) with student card (except for Erasmus students)
    • Subscription to the Student and Campus Life Contribution (100 €) (except Erasmus students)

    Insurance

    Upon arrival in France, students must have an insurance certificate covering all medical, hospital and death expenses that may be incurred during their stay in France, including repatriation costs for medical reasons.

    Students registered at AMU and housed at the CROUS must take out accommodation and civil liability insurance.

  • Internship in a company

    Only students selected by their partner university of the IUT of Aix-Marseille and who are part of an exchange programme can benefit from these services.

    Application

    The university partner sends to the International Relations Department the applications (CV and letters) of its selected students before the beginning of November.

    Company

    The International Relations Department looks for a host company between November and January. The choice of the company will be based on its suitability for the student's training, the mission to be accomplished by the student, and accessibility by public transport from the university residence. By February at the latest, the student is put in contact with the company.

    The student is enrolled in an IUT training department, he/she draws up the internship agreement and collects the signatures (AMU, company, IUT and student). A teacher tutor from the IUT is appointed, who will be the reference person during the internship and will propose one session per zoom with the intern (or more if necessary). He/she will organise the internship defence at the end of the internship in the presence of the company tutor and the university partner tutor (per zoom).



    Compensation

    The company pays a financial compensation called gratuity if the internship exceeds 44 working days at 7 hours per day (equivalent to 2 months). The bonus is not subject to social security contributions. It is €3.90 per hour.



    Registration at the University

    Several steps are required:

    • Registration on the Moveon mobility portal
    • Online registration at the University of Aix-Marseille (170 €) with student card
    • Subscription to the Student Life and Campus Contribution (100 €) (except for Erasmus students)

    Immigration for non-European applicants

    Visas :

    Supporting documents required:

    • Valid passport
    • Proof of means of subsistence (cash, traveller's cheques, international bank cards, etc.)
    • Proof of repatriation guarantees (return ticket, etc.)
    • Insurance covering medical and hospital expenses, including social assistance, for care that might be received in France (the minimum cover required is €30,000)
    • Proof of accommodation from CROUS
    • Documents on the purpose and conditions of your stay in France (internship agreement)

    Social security

    • Canada: Interns covered by the Memorandum of Understanding between France and Quebec on the social protection of pupils and students may be exempted from the application of French law. RAMQ information
    • Europe: European trainees staying less than 3 months are covered by their European Health Insurance Card (reimbursement of expenses incurred in France)

    Insurance

    Upon arrival in France, the student must be in possession of an insurance certificate covering all medical, hospital and death expenses that may be incurred during the entire stay in France, including repatriation expenses for medical reasons.

    Students registered at AMU and housed at the CROUS must take out accommodation and civil liability insurance.

  • Internship in a university research laboratory

    Only students selected by their partner university of the IUT of Aix-Marseille and who are part of an exchange programme can benefit from these services.

    Application

    The university partner sends to the International Relations Department the applications (CV and letters) of its selected students before January 15th.

    University reseach laboratory

    The International Relations Department looks for a host university research laboratory. The choice of it will be based on its suitability for the student's training, the mission to be accomplished by the student, and accessibility by public transport from the university residence. By February at the latest, the student is put in contact with the laboratory.

    The student is enrolled in an IUT training department, he/she draws up the internship agreement and collects the signatures (AMU, company, IUT and student). A teacher tutor from the IUT is appointed, who will be the reference person during the internship and will propose one session per zoom with the intern (or more if necessary). He/she will organise the internship defence at the end of the internship in the presence of the laboratory tutor and the university partner tutor (per zoom).

    The internship will be less than 2 months and will not be eligible for a bonus.

  • Health-related procedures

    The steps related to your health are essential and must be anticipated. Depending on your nationality, you will either have to apply for a European Health Insurance Card or join the Social Security system once you arrive in France.

  • Opening a bank account

    Opening a bank account is recommended for non-European nationals in order to facilitate your installation in France and ensure the smooth running of your administrative procedures.

  • Welcome in France

    A minimum of autonomy is necessary because the student cannot be personally welcomed on arrival in France. Nevertheless, they are given precise information before their arrival which should enable them to go to the various places independently:

    • in the university residence: an appointment is proposed by the CROUS to hand over the keys
    • at the University of Aix-Marseille: exchange students participate in the integration week from 28 August to 1 September 2023 (upon invitation and registration). They benefit from all reception facilities.
    • at the IUT at the schooling service and at the training department to collect your student card
    • in the company or research laboratory for trainees
  • Housing

    Aix and Marseille

    Selected students studying or on placement are accommodated in CROUS university residences in Aix-en-Provence or Marseille. The residences offer a wide range of services at moderate rates. They are accessible by public transport.

    Reservations and applications are made online. The final price for 2023 is not yet known. In 2022, it was :

    • 100 € at reservation (deducted from the first rent),
    • 250 € security deposit (returned after departure)
    • 10 per night, €280 per month, €1160 per semester (on average depending on the hall of residence, the size and the equipment of the room).

    Accommodation insurance and civil liability insurance are compulsory (approximate cost 2022 between €50 and €100 depending on the insurer and the duration of the insurance).

  • University catering

    CROUS residences offer catering services in university restaurants (RU) on campus and in university residences.

  • Regional transport

    The Pass Zou études (unlimited bus and rail travel) allows you to travel all year round for 90 € throughout the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region.

French as a Foreign Language (FLE) course

The Service Universitaire des Langues (SUL) offers French as a foreign language courses to exchange students: an intensive week before the start of the academic year, as well as evening courses throughout the year. These courses are by registration only.

  • Intensive week last week of August : 20 hours of language classes every morning from 8.30am to 12pm, various activities in the afternoon
  • Evening courses : 30 hours of FLE classes spread over 10 weeks from October to December or from February to April, 2 evenings per week from 6pm to 7.30pm, 6 ECTS credits
